Event Overview

This retreat is a traditional practice that has been passed down in the Tibetan lineage to deeply purify karmic tendencies generated through our body, speech, and mind. Drupon Lama Dorje is a certified retreat master of the Drikung Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism Mahayana. He will skillfully guide us to train our hearts and minds through traditional visualizations, silence, intermittent fasting, sacred mantra, prostrations and the precious teachings of the Dharma. We are fortunate to be receiving the 1000 Armed Avalokiteshvara Empowerment and the uninterrupted oral instructions of the sacred vajrayana methods. This is an opportunity to cleanse the habits and emotional patterns we struggle with and intentionally start on a new fresh note so that we may actively engage in compassionate action in the world. This practice is said to be a powerful, swift, and effective method to purify vast amounts of negativity and accumulate vast amounts of merit, healing us at the physical, emotional, and mental levels. The ultimate goal of this practice is to swiftly attain Enlightenment for the benefit of all beings.

In this retreat we are going much deeper than your normal detox, we are purifying the impurities of our body, the toxins of our speech, and the poisons of our mind that have been accumulated over endless lifetimes. Through skillful methods of mantras, prostrations, visualizations, meditation, silence, mindful walking, alongside juicing and fasting, we are deeply cleansing our karmic imprints.

Drupon Lama Dorje will be sharing insightful teachings on how to maintain this newfound purity and to make a new commitment from here forward to steward these 3 sacred doorways with care.

“May I benefit all beings through my body, speech, and mind.”

The traditional Tibetan way of this retreat is to have a wholesome lunch on the half days because the level of purification happening during the mantras and prostrations is very very deep. Even those accustomed to week-long detoxing find this particular method to be very strong. Thus, to actually have energy to do the full fasting on Saturday, the Tibetan tradition is to eat one good meal on the half days.

Sticking to tradition, we will be waking up VERY early “before we can see the light shine on our hands” and the first words that touch our lips are aspiration prayers for the benefit of all beings. With very little (or on some days none at all) food and drink in our bellies, we will repeat specific prayers and mantras multiple times a day as a practice of letting go of our attachments and comforts in order to benefit others. We will train our minds to focus and accept the sensations that come and go. As we gift ourselves the time to sit with ourselves and our minds, we will notice these emotions, feelings, experiences are always in constant flux- they are not as real and big as they seem. This becomes an invaluable experience that we bring back into daily life that helps us manage chaos and transform it into the nectar of awakening. As we chant and pray from the depths of our hearts, we will bow our bodies in a practice called “prostrations” which offers reverence to the great masters who show us the path of consciousness and whom are constantly benefiting sentient beings. May our hearts and minds be one.

Things to consider

*Please note that we cannot guarantee that these practices will provide instant healing. Though if you listen to the teachings, connect with them deeply, and put them into practice, it has been known to bring great benefit to countless beings.

*Please let us know if you have health conditions we should be aware of, as this practice can be physically potent. Though, you of course can meet the practices within your capacity.

*It is recommended to have already taken refuge vows before this practice, or to consider taking refuge vows at the beginning of the retreat with Lama. We will explain more about this at the retreat so you can decide if it feels like a good option for you and your spiritual path. In short, refuge means committing to the path of awakening for all beings. You do not have to let go of current beliefs or practices, simply commit to being a better human every day.
